The NIC delivers outreach sports programmes within the Community. The programme delivers in line free skating and hockey skills to groups of school children.
The scheme is being rolled out through the Ellis Guilford School Sport Partnership initially and maybe rolled out within other School Sport Partnerships in future school years.
The programme is being delivered in two eight week cohorts throughout eight schools. The scheme is being funded through a grant from the Big Lottery Fund that the School Sport Partnerships receive. Around £3,000.00 has been spent on equipment including in line skates, leg pads, elbow pads, outdoor hockey sticks and outdoor hockey balls. A further £4,500.00 is being spent on coaching provision. Sessions take place on school playgrounds or sports halls as part of after school clubs. Interest in the programme has been huge and feedback has been very positive.
After the take-up and feedback from the schools the plan is to establish an outreach Club at Southglade Leisure Centre which will deliver coached inline skating/hockey sessions. This will be a self financing project through the children attending paying a small fee for the service. We are also investigating the continuation of the programme to roll it out to additional schools and different age groups.
