Figure Skating

Figure skating is an ice skating sporting event where individuals and mixed couples compete to try to perform the most spectacular and accurately-executed elements while skating to music.

Ice dancing is similar to ballroom dancing. The focus is on the complex steps in time to the music. The skaters maintain contact with each other, with limited lifts and jumps.

How do I get involved?

Sign up to one of our Skate UK classes and over a six week period professional coaches will teach you all the techniques you need whatever your age or ability.

Once you’ve completed all 10 Skate UK grades you’re ready to move onto Skate UK Star. Select Figure Skating as your chosen discipline and then progress through the bronze, silver and gold levels.

After Skate UK Star

If you show real flair during your classes you may be talent spotted by one of our coaches and invited to join the NIC’s Skate Academy in Figure Skating and this could be your pathway to becoming an elite athlete.

Please find a link to our Ice Schedule which covers off all our Figure Skating and Adult Development classes.

This will be an opportunity to improve the skaters overall ability in either discipline through focussing on the basic techniques of generic figure skating.

The classes will involve both Figure Skating and Ice Dancing skills including jumping and spinning, footwork and turns, posture, edge quality and artistry, thereby exploring all aspects of figure skating.

This session will be ideal for any skaters wishing to develop their overall skating ability. Coaching will take place in a group format for £13.50 per session to those who have passed bronze free and under the age of 18.

Figure Skating Clinic

A two day development clinic for foundation level skaters at both adult and junior levels. The clinic will combine on ice and off ice sessions which will provide skaters with a well rounded, technical knowledge base which is key to becoming a skilled skater.

The courses cost £80 and must be pre-booked.

Practice Ice

If you need to practice your figure skating moves, you can do on our special ice sessions, for skaters who have passed level eight of the Skate UK programme/NISA National Tests Level 1.

With no more than 15-25 people on the ice and a minimum of two, you can practice your presentation or skills for only £7.50 per session in advance.

To book a session you must have successfully completed Grade 8, possess your own skates and be able to train in a serious manner without supervision.

Practice Ice skaters must adhere to our Practice Ice Policy when using the ice.
