HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS SLAM DUNK INTO BLUE BELL HILL SCHOOL
Thu 02 February 12
Who said basketball players can't play ice hockey?

Basketball legends the Harlem Globetrotters bounced into a Nottingham school this week to show off their slam dunking skills to young fans.

Kids at our School of Ice, Blue Bell Hill in St Anns put in some extra training on the court before two of the teams’ greatest players arrived to showcase their talents.

Harlem team members Flip Atkins and Blenda Rodriguez showed the 250 pupils some of their trademark Globetrotter tricks and spins and gave them a ‘C.H.E.E.R For Character’ presentation which amied to inspire the youngsters to work hard in school and keep a healthy mind and body.

We couldn’t resist setting them a challenge of spinning a basketball on an ice hockey stick which we grabbed a picture of (see above)- and then for the real challenge: spinning a basketball on an ice hockey boot lace!! Check the video out here…

The visit even made TV!! Check out the features on ITV Central News and BBC news.

The visit is ahead of the full Harlem Globetrotters squad appearing at Capital FM Arena Nottingham at 7.30pm on Wednesday 21 March as part of their ‘World of Fun’ tour.

Animal takes to the ice!

To celebrate the launch of the new Muppets Movie on Friday 10 February 2012, we were joined at the National Ice Centre by Animal who took time away from his drum kit to try his hand at ice skating!

Check out the full video here:

The National Ice Centre Learning Zone and Cineworld Nottingham teamed up once again as partners to offer opportunities for children and schools to take part in something a little different linking the movies to the ice.

Blue Bell Hill School pupils have been working hard making their very own Muppets which will go on display in the main foyer in time for the launch of the film. This was a way of introducing art, craft and design into their lessons in a unique and engaging way.

Whilst the ice skating may not have turned out quite how Animal may have liked – why not try and learn a new sport in 2012 and try our ice skating lessons with your family. For further information visit our website!
