Schools Ice Skating Programme

The National Ice Centre’s award winning Schools Ice Skating Programme offers an exciting, motivational and fun experience for children – with all participants receiving a national qualification, accredited by the National Ice Skating Association (NISA), upon completion of the programme.

Over 16,000 children have participated in the programme to-date and it is seen by the Youth Sport Trust as being an inspiring way for young people to take part in PE and sport who are not yet engaged.

Urban Hockey

Urban Hockey is a fast moving, exciting playground sport which is helping children of all ages to engage with PE. Based on the game of ice hockey, participants learn to stickhandle, pass and shoot like the pros.

This exciting sport can be played by anyone irrespective of age or ability and is used by many local schools to support their PE lessons. It has been developed to teach youngsters the basic and fundamental skills of hockey, whilst providing a unique opportunity for children who may not usually get involved in sporting activities.

If you would like the NIC to bring Urban Hockey to your school or to learn more about the sport,  email our Sport Development Officer or call 0115 853 3064.

Learning Zone

The NIC Learning Zone is operated in partnership with Blue Bell Hill Trust – a partnership which aims to offer a unique experience and inspire children and their families through ice.

The Learning Zone operates a Family Skate Programme, supported by Nottingham City Council, The Nottingham Panthers and Experian. The programme is the first of its kind in the UK, and allows families to spend quality time together by carrying out activities in the Learning Zone classroom area and participating in skating lessons together.

The scheme received the Inspire Mark in the run up to the London 2012 Olympic Games as recognition of exceptional and innovative projects inspired by the Olympic Games.

Other activities include holiday clubs and activity days with the Nottingham Panthers.
