The National Ice Centre boasts a great range of facilities and services to make your visit memorable. Our main facilities are detailed below, but if you have any other questions about the venue or our services please visit our Accessibility page, FAQ section or Contact Us.

Our Tips & Advice page is a great place to get all of the information you need in order to ensure your ice skating experience at the National Ice Centre is a safe and memorable one.

Before you hit the ice you’ll need one essential item – your ice skates! Pick up your skates from the Skate Hire counter, located next to the ice rink on level 1. We have over 1,500 pairs of skates in a variety of sizes from child size 5 to adult size 15. Be aware, on busy sessions demand can be high for skates. You can also buy your own skates from our Ice Locker store which is located on level 2 of the venue alongside the main entrance.

Keep all your belongings safe while you’re on the ice by storing them in one of our lockers. Lockers are located within the skate hire area at a charge of 50p per opening (by purchasing a token from one of the machines). Larger lockers are also available at a charge of £1 – look out for the £1 stickers on the front of the lockers!

Our fun on-ice equipment characters are available for children who require assistance with their first steps onto the ice. Penguins, snowmen, ice scooters and seals are available to hire for just £2 per 30 minutes.

NEW! – We’re going bananas for our new on-ice equipment! You can fit two children on a banana skating aid at once… hire one next time you’re skating and give it a try! 🍌🙌

Our on ice characters are fun and we want you to be safe so please note:

  • On-ice equipment must be supervised by a parent or guardian over the age of 16 at all times
  • On-ice equipment is not allowed on club sessions or theme nights
  • On-ice equipment should be front facing at all times and the user must be wearing skates
  • Do not stand on the front of the equipment
  • On-ice equipment is not to be used for games or racing, skating rules are to be followed at all times
  • On-ice equipment is available on a first come first served basis, subject to availability
  • At peak times the hire period is restricted to 30 minutes per session/per customer
  • Please return on-ice equipment to the collection point at the end of the hire period ready for the next user
  • Those considered of a good skating ability but within the height restrictions will not be allowed to use the on-ice equipment

The National Ice Centre offers a ‘Child Safe Wristband’ service as an additional security measure to assist parents, guardians and staff, in finding children who have been separated from them whilst inside the venue.

To obtain a free wristband for your child, visit the Box Office located in the main foyer on level 2. A contact telephone number should be written on the wristband and in the event of your child being lost, you will be contacted on the number provided once your child has been found.

Meeting points provide a convenient and safe location for people to meet, should they get separated from their family/group. The National Ice Centre has two meeting points:

Level 1 Meeting Point – In front of the lifts
Level 2 Meeting Point – Top of the staircase leading to the NIC ice rink (to the right of the lifts)

If you lose a child at the venue, please go directly to the meeting point if pre-arranged or speak to a member of staff.

We have three cash machines at the venue, two in the main foyer on level 2 and one on Lower Parliament Street. Please be aware these do charge for cash withdrawals as displayed on the screens.

The National Ice Centre has accessible toilet facilities and baby changing units within easy reach of the ice rink, as well as a dedicated Changing Places facility. Find out more about our Changing Places toilet facility.
