Figure skating is a multifaceted sport that combines both technical skill and artistic interpretation while gliding effortlessly across the ice. Figure skating is an Olympic sport in four disciplines: Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Pair Skating and Ice Dance.

At the National Ice Centre, you can book lessons and group sessions in Singles Skating and Ice Dance!

Children aged 3-8 years old, who are interested in developing their skills on the ice as figure skaters are encouraged to join the Junior Figure Skating Academy.

Based on progression and ability, the Junior Figure Skating Academy members are advised on further pathways by our coaching team.

To find out more about the Junior Figure Skating Academy, please contact Janet Wass on 0115 853 3010.

The next step to progressing towards competitive Figure skating is the NIC Figure Skating Academy!

The NIC Figure Skating Academy offers training programmes for different levels of Singles Skating and Ice Dance.

Progression is based on the National Ice Skating Association’s (NISA) test and competition system, combined and supported by the International Skating Union’s (ISU) Guidelines, Rules and Regulations for Figure skating disciplines.

If you want to master your skating moves, you can attend Practice Ice sessions. These sessions are perfect for skaters who have passed all eight skating grades, have their own skates and are able to train in a serious manner without supervision.

A minimum number of two people are required on the session. There is a charge of £8 per session so take a look at our Ice Schedule for details of our practice ice dates and times.

To attend you must follow the rules outlined in our T&Cs.

To arrange a 121 lesson, speak to one of the coaches when you are down on the ice or speak to our Box Office Team who will arrange for a coach to contact you.
