Want to learn how to improve your confidence and ability on the ice? Skating lessons are available for everyone at any age or ability at the National Ice Centre. 

There are 8 grades to work through, beginning at grade 1.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

View our ice skating grades videos to discover what you’ll learn as you progress through the skating grades. You’ll be able to see which moves you’ve mastered and which moves still need a bit of work!

As you progress through each grade, you are given the opportunity to learn how to speed skate, figure skate or play ice hockey – perfect for anyone who wants to try an exciting and new ice sport activity.

TOTS LEARN TO SKATE WITH PARENTS

Designed for toddlers aged 2 to 4 years with parents in mind, this course enables a parent to join their toddler and help them with balance and coordination.

Led by an experienced coach, basic skating skills and fun activities take place both on and off the ice to ensure toddlers learn how to skate in a fun and safe environment.

As a parent, it will also enable you to become confident on the ice with your toddler.

PRICE: £37 per course
LESSON TIME: Saturdays 9:45am – 10:15am

TOTS LEARN TO SKATE WITHOUT PARENTS

This course is designed for tots aged 3 – 5 years who want to take part in structured skating tuition before joining our main skating classes.

Our experienced coaches will take your little ones from learning to stand on the ice to fully fledged skaters.

PRICE: £37 per course
LESSON TIME: Sundays 8:15am – 8:45am

INTENSIVE SKATING LESSONS

Fit six weeks of skating lessons into just three days with our intensive skating lessons!

Intensive lessons run for an hour each day over three consecutive days during the school holidays.

Price includes access to the public 11.15am – 3.45pm session each day.

Skate Hire included.

SKATE UK STAR

After passing grade 8 Skate UK, skaters are able to join the Skate UK Star course, which is comprised of three levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold.

The programme can be taken in singles skating (free skating), ice dance and speed skating.

Skaters who want to enter the NISA standard test system to gain skating qualifications or enter competitions must complete all Skate UK Star levels.

LESSON TIME: Thursdays 5:45pm-6:15pm and Sundays 1pm-1:30pm

Show your friends and family what you’ve achieved! Sew-on badges (£3.50) and personalised certificates (£2) can be purchased from our Box Office.

speed Skating

Short Track Speed Skating is a fast, adrenaline-fuelled sport full of unpredictability, where skaters reach speeds of up to 35kmph on blades 46cm long and only 1mm thick.

figure Skating

Figure skating involves individuals and mixed couples competing to perform the most spectacular and accurately executed lifts, jumps and spins, while skating to music.

synchronized Skating

Synchronized Skating is the fastest growing figure skating discipline. It involves teams of 12-16 skaters skating in formation whilst performing intricate routines to music.
